What are Apprenticeships?

Modern Apprenticeships (MAs) offer people aged over 16 the chance of paid employment combined with the opportunity to train for jobs at different levels. They're an exciting way of gaining skills and nationally recognised qualifications that help kickstart a career without having to study full-time. MAs are available across a wide range of industries. AD Services Scotland Ltd deliver the qualifications listed on the left hand side of this page.

For those who do not fall into the fully funded category and for candidates living further field and you would like to offer work based qualifications we offer the qualifications directly to the candidate or their employer at the rates to be confirmed if you contact us.    Please remember distance is a major factor in the cost as is the experience of the person taking the qualification and all prices are for a candidate within 25 miles of our Hamilton office.

SVQs are work-based qualifications with no final examination; the apprentice must prove his/her competence in the work over a period of time under the help and guidance of an assessor.

  • Level 2 SVQ is equivalent to a GCSE or Standard Grade are ideal for semi skilled workers
  • Level 3 SVQ is equivalent to H Levels are ideal for craft skilled workers who have complete autonomy for the work being carried out.
  • Level 4 SVQ is equivalent to and HND are ideal for technicians.

To achieve a Modern Apprentice Qualifiction in engineering requires the learner to achieve a level 2 SVQ plus a Level 3 SVQ and achieve a suitable NC/NQ qualification, the time frame for attaining a modern apprentice is three to four years

Modern apprenticeships in Administration, Warehousing, Management and Occupational Health and Safety do not require the National Certificate and thus do not require day release for college attendance,

If you have wide practical experience you would not need to take the same time for each of the SVQs as would be taken by someone with little or no exerience.  SVQ qualifications are candidate driven therefore the time taken to achieve will depend upon the individual candidate.
